The Illinois Department of Public Health announced Wednesday it will provide free COVID-19 vaccinations at six locations at the Illinois State Fair, which is scheduled to take place between Aug. 12 and Aug. 22. The agency will offer the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine at the Illinois Building, Happy Hollow and Main Street, Brian Rainey Ave., the Avenue of Flags, 4-H Lane and the Livestock Center on 8^th Street. Officials request those interested to bring a photo ID and their insurance card, if they have one. Proof of immigration status is not required.

As federal and state moratoria on evictions expired at the end of July, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle on Monday reminded residents about Cook County Legal Aid for Housing and Debt, an initiative aiming to help residents resolve issues around eviction, foreclosure, debt and tax deeds. The countywide initiative also offers free legal assistance and resources for landlords and tenants facing eviction issues. With the expired eviction moratoria, landlords got the green light to file eviction papers within the Cook County Courts Aug. 1.

Gov. JB Pritzker’s office announced Monday the home areas of the fourth round of the state’s COVID-19 vaccine lottery were from Macon County, Schaumburg and Springfield. Each of the winners will receive $100,000.

The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity said Monday it will celebrate Black businesses in August by hosting a series of events and initiatives throughout the month. Agency officials said the month-long celebration will include collaborations with community leaders, organizations and others to invite Illinoisans to shop at black-owned businesses on Saturdays and discuss opportunities for community-members to access COVID-19 recovery assistance funds.

The Illinois Department of Public Health and the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services announced Monday an expansion of Medicaid coverage for diabetes prevent and management programs.

The Chicago Department of Public Health on Friday issued a new recommendation that everyone over age 2, whether they have been vaccinated or not, wear masks in indoor public settings. A news release from the city’s public health department notes that masking while outdoors remains optional. Chicago passed the benchmark of seeing more than 200 news cases of COVID-19 on Friday. Public health Comm. Allison Arwady during a Sunday news conference said the most recent data shows the city is seeing an average of 206 new cases per day, moving the city from "lower transmission to substantial transmission," triggering the indoor masking recommendation.

Gov. JB Pritzker on Thursday announced that face coverings will be required in all state facilities for all employees and visitors, regardless of vaccination status. In a statement, Pritzker said the announcement comes as the “majority” of Illinois is “experiencing substantial or high COVID-19 transmission.”

Mayor Lori Lightfoot's administration announced the first three dates and locations for its "interactive budget forums" in August: a 10 a.m. session on Aug. 7 at XS Tennis at 5336 S. State St., a 6 p.m. session on Aug. 11 at Malcolm X College on the Near West Side and a 6 p.m. session on Aug. 12 at Truman College in Uptown.

The Cook County Department of Public Health will issue new masking guidance on Friday in response to the Centers for Disease Control changing its classification for Cook County to indicate there is “substantial” community transition of COVID-19. “We strongly recommend that everyone follow the CDC recommendations and we will be issuing a new masking guidance tomorrow,” Cook County Department of Public Health co-lead Rachel Rubin wrote in a statement Thursday. “The Delta variant is the strongest version of COVID-19 yet and we must contain it through both vaccinations and prevention measures such as mask wearing indoors and in crowded outdoor settings.” 

Chicago Treasurer Melissa Conyears-Ervin announced a series of financial literacy events she will host throughout the month of August, starting with “Planning Your Financial Journey” at 12 p.m. next Wednesday. She will also host events called “Retirement Planning 101” at 12 p.m. Aug. 11 and “Small Business 101” at 12 p.m. Aug. 17.

Officials from the Illinois Emergency Management Agency urged patients of Hoffman MRI, commonly known as Hoffman Imaging and Medical Center at 2500 W. Higgins Rd Suit 830 in Hoffman Estates, to consult with their physician if they had a mammogram performed at the facility on or after Oct. 17, 2019. A state review of the facility found poor quality mammography images.
