The Illinois Department of Human Services is now accepting applications for up to $25,000 in rental assistance, officials announced Monday. Applicants must be residents of Illinois and must have experienced a change in income due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Landlords are also eligible for financial assistance if their tenants are behind on rent. Applications will be open until Jan. 9, 2022. Assistance is also available through the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and the Illinois Department of Human Services. 

The Illinois Manufacturers’ Association announced the appointment of Gregg Webb as the new chair of the association’s Board of Directors. Webb is vice president for state government relations at Archer Daniels Midland Company, a Chicago-based food processing and commodities trading corporation.

The Chicago Department of Human Resources reported on Monday that about 94.7 percent of city employees had complied with the city’s vaccination policy, about 81.5 percent of whom are fully vaccinated. About 89.3 percent of Chicago Police Department employees, more than 99 percent of Fire Department employees and 84.2 percent of City Council employees were in compliance with the policy. 

The Metropolitan Planning Council will host a virtual event at noon on Dec. 16 called “Past, Present and Future: the MPC legacy.” The event will include a panel of Metropolitan Planning Council leaders and feature Melissa Washington, ComEd’s vice president for governmental and external affairs, as its keynote speaker. Online registration is required.

The Illinois Commerce Commission on Monday announced the addition of a new 861 area code in Western Illinois, set to come online by early 2023. It will overlap with the 309 area code, which covers large portions of northwestern and northcentral Illinois. 

Farmers in Lake, Boone and McHenry counties are eligible for benefits following the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s issuance of a disaster declaration for losses caused by freezing that occurred between May 5 and May 30 of this year, according to an announcement from the Illinois Department of Agriculture on Monday. A “Secretarial natural disaster designation allows the USDA Farm Service Agency to provide emergency loans to producers recovering from natural disasters,” according to the announcement. More information is available online.
