Ward Reports October 31, 2024

Ald. Matt Martin (47) posted "Rev. Johnson's antisemitic comments, his disbarment in Ohio, and the lien placed on his home for nonpayment of child support call into question his rapid appointment and capacity to lead. He should step down so a different person can help lead CPS during this challenging moment."

Ald. Andre Vasquez (40) posted "Just for clarity, going down from 8000 filled beds to 6800 filled beds isn’t increasing capacity, it’s decreasing capacity and putting 1200 people out on the street. As much as people want to reframe it, math is math."

Ald. Debra Silverstein (50) posted "Over the last year, newly-appointed Chicago Public School Board President Rev. Mitchell Ikenna Johnson has made deeply offensive and antisemitic comments, calling into doubt his ability to fairly represent Jewish students and families in Chicago Public Schools. In response, I and many of my colleagues on the Chicago City Council, are calling for him to apologize and immediately step down from his position."

Ald. Daniel La Spata (1) posted "We officially have 2025 budget documents to comb through and prepare for departmental hearings. Check them out for yourself, plus two new budget blogs, at http://the1stward.com/2025budget"
