Ward Reports February 15, 2024

Ald. Raymond Lopez (15) posted "The mayor tries a delayed cancellation of ShotSpotter in seven months. ShotSpotter will cancel Chicago in 48 hours. Gang bangers & criminals rejoice the Mayor’s bluff being called. #ElectionsHaveConsequences"

Ald. Debra Silverstein (50) posted "I was honored to meet with Bar Rudaeff and Yaniv Yaakov yesterday at an event hosted by AJC. Bar’s father, Lior Rudaeff, and Yaniv’s brother, Yair Yaakov, have been held captive in Gaza since October 7. Freeing the hostages is the best way to end the war. #BringThemHomeNow."

Ald. Brendan Reilly (42) posted about the death of Sun-Times editorial cartoonist Jack Higgins: "Oh no! Jack was one of my favorites. He included me in a few of his cartoons when I was fighting Mayor Daley against illegal new buildings in Grant Park. When Jack’s book came out, I received a signed version with a kind note from him. He was one of the true greats. My condolences to his friends & family. Very sad."

Ald. Daniel La Spata (1) posted "Thrilled to see @ChicagosMayor commit to cancelling the ShotSpotter contract. This isn’t ideological or progressive; it’s evidence-based. The “technology” doesn’t work. Even data CPD has provided to City Council proves it. Great step for the city."

Ald. Lamont Robinson (4) posted about the death of artist Joyce Owens: "Devastating. Ms. Owens had a radiant spirit that transformed any room she was in. Tonight, my deepest sympathies are with her husband, son, and family."
