Ward Reports December 19, 2023

Ald. Debra Silverstein (50) posted "Disappointed, but not surprised, by the one-sided attack against Israel in Human Relations committee today. The City Council should demand the release of the hostages, condemn the violence and rape perpetrated against Israeli citizens, and call for the dissolution of Hamas."

Ald. Daniel La Spata (1) posted "For the peace of the people of Gaza, for the safe return of all hostages, I was proud to join my colleagues in calling for an immediate ceasefire. My great thanks to @Ward33Chicago for her leadership and collaboration! Please do not confuse criticism of the government of Israel for antisemitism. No one should ever use a demand for peace as a justification for violence"

Ald. Bill Conway (34) posted "I’d like to thank everyone who has been helping today on the effort under the River West viaducts. I appreciate the Mayor’s Office authorizing this clean-up, which occurs regularly at other locations throughout the city. With temps dropping & violent crime rising - including a fatal shooting here - we want this area to be safe for everyone. Last week, 7 people accepted the city’s offer for safe, immediate shelter, and today 5 more people have so far. We hope those who declined will reconsider. This is a step forward but not a solution. My team will keep working w/ @ChiFamSupport to offer housing & treatment, @StreetsandSan to keep the area clean & clear for residents, commuters, & those with mobility limitations, and @Chicago_Police to tackle narcotics & violent crime."

Ald. Raymond Lopez (15) posted this about reports of illness among children at a migrant shelter in Pilsen: "2,391 people crammed into a dirty warehouse with nobody from the city or delegate agencies paying attention. This recipe for disaster has been duplicated throughout Chicago - and that is before we account for the prostitution & drug dealing outside the buildings!"

Ald. Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth (48) posted "Christmas in the Wards went off without a hitch! Thanks to Angel, our Director of Neighborhood Services, for organizing/coordinating and to our wonderful volunteers for helping us wrap so many gifts! You make the season brighter!"
