Ward Reports August 12, 2021

Ald. Daniel La Spata (1) tweeted a statement saying, “there is no reason for the city to continue holding onto” federal funds from the American Rescue Plan “when they are needed by our Chicago residents hardest hit by the pandemic.” La Spata encouraged people to “join” him in “urging the mayor’s office to immediately put this $1.9 billion to use.”

Ald. Raymond Lopez (15) tweeted “Why is speaking the truth so hard for some people? It is the one thing that never changes regardless whomever says it.”

Ald. Rossana Rodriguez-Sanchez (33) tweeted about Mayor Lori Lightfoot saying on Wednesday she expects to propose a 2022 spending plan with an increase in the police department’s budget, writing “This has been the story for decades and decades. This is a big part of what has us in this place. If all you fund is punishment and violence, that’s what you will continue to create. We need structures of care urgently.”

Ald. Gilbert Villegas (36) tweeted “It’s unfortunate that the US Senate negotiated the funding for the replacement of Lead Service Lines from $45 billion to $15 billion. Nows the time to put an end to lead service lines and ensure that everyone has clean water, free of lead pipes.”

Ald. Maria Hadden (49) tweeted about Chicago Department of Public Health Comm. Allison Arwady’s presentation to the Council’s health and human relations committee, writing “Well, Dr. Arwady says they'll, ‘follow the data.’ I think the data she showed us is clearly pointing to a surge - so why wait for numbers to spike to implement a mask mandate?”
