Illinois should take steps to lower its Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) error rate, maximize the use of work requirement waivers and expand employment and training programs.
Those are suggestions from a Civic Federation report examining changes to SNAP under the federal “One Big Beautiful Bill” Act that’s projected to add more than $700 million in costs to the state budget.

A state report on maternal mortality found that 91 percent of pregnancy-related deaths could have been prevented. The report also found that racial disparities remain, emphasizing a need to continue state initiatives to improve health outcomes for women.
The annual Maternal Mortality Data Report is conducted by the Illinois Department of Public Health. The 2025 report examines data from 2021-22.
