    With Chicago Public Schools (CPS) facing a $734 million shortfall in 2026, the mayor and Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) have called on the state to make a $1.6 billion payment they say is owed to the district. Gov. JB Pritzker says “that's just not going to happen.”
