Illinois saw an increase in revenue in the first two months of fiscal year 2027, with the state bringing in over $500 million more than the same time period last year. 

Illinois received its second credit upgrade in a week Tuesday when S&P Global Ratings bumped the state’s general obligation bond rating.

Illinois co-led a coalition of states Tuesday in sending a letter to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) opposing two proposed rule changes to radiation safety standards and protection and environmental review. 

A federal appeals court ruled last week that states can regulate prediction markets, a major win for states trying to crack down on the platforms.  

For Illinois, the decision could have a significant impact after the state legislature passed a tax on the markets that is being challenged in court.  

A federal court has temporarily blocked new rules regarding mail ballots after Illinois and a coalition of states argued they could not be implemented before the Nov. 3 election. 

The Illinois Prisoner Review Board (PRB) temporarily rescinded a rule change requiring in-person participation for medical release hearings but still intends to update its rules in the coming months. 

Illinois will receive more than $700 million as part of a multistate settlement with Meta over allegations the company designed their platforms to be addictive to children.

Gov. JB Pritzker signed a bill Wednesday regulating electric micromobility devices such as electric scooters. 

The final meeting of the Regional Transportation Authority’s (RTA) board of directors highlighted some of the areas of improvement for Chicago-area transit the new governing authority will look to tackle — starting with the 2027 budget. 

The Illinois State Board of Elections (SBE) certified the 2026 midterm ballot Friday, solidifying the candidates voters will choose from in November.
