Gov. JB Pritzker on Friday appointed Sharon Rudy as the public administrator and public guardian of Jo Daviess, Ogle and Stephenson counties, Scott Schultz as public administrator and public guardian of Jersey County, Richard Figueroa and Scott Hendrie to continue serving on the State Universities Retirement System Board of Trustees, William Kent to the Metropolitan Exposition and Auditorium Authority, and Roma Parikh Dalal, Antara Nath Rivera and Ana Vazquez as arbitrators on the Worker’s Compensation Commission. Each of the appointments must be confirmed by the state Senate.  

Gov. JB Pritzker on Monday activated the State Emergency Operation Center in response to the chemical fire in Winnebago County. Agencies providing assistance in response to the fire at the Rockton chemical plant include the Illinois State Police, Illinois Department of Transportation, Illinois Department of Public Health, the Office of the State Fire Marshal, the Illinois National Guard, Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, Illinois Emergency Management Agency and the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System, the American Red Cross and Salvation Army.

Sen. Robert Peters (D-Chicago) and Rep. Kelly Cassidy (D-Chicago) are set to join Good Government Illinois on Thursday, June 10 at 6 p.m. for an hourlong virtual town hall where they will reflect on the legislative session. Registration is required. 

Ald. Daniel La Spata (1) wrote a tweet thread about the search for Chicago’s next utility franchise agreement, writing, ‘I believe that the next utility provider in Chicago owes our residents more transparency and equity than we have received in the past. 

Ald. Raymond Lopez (15) tweeted, “Early morning shootout downtown? Who is responsible for this diminished vision for Chicago with chaos on a daily basis in every corner of the city? Clearly no one else is willing to rise to the occasion with me and confront the demons in our midst: gang culture!” 

Ald. Scott Waguespack (32) touted Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s “Chi Biz Strong” business recovery ordinance, writing in his newsletter that the measure “cuts red tape for businesses, and provides that Chicago workers are front and center in the economic recovery across the states.” 

Ald. Gilbert Villegas (36) shared a news article about ransomware attacks and tweeted, “This is exactly why I introduced a resolution to discuss our (Chicago) plan to deal with cyber security. Given the recent hacks that took place we have to ensure that the public’s data is protected. Hearings should occur in July.” 

Ald. Andre Vasquez (40) wrote in his latest newsletter that Jose Almanza is his new constituent services director. 

Ald. Brendan Reilly (42) wrote in his latest newsletter that he has asked police to “conduct drag racing and drifting and motorcycle enforcement missions” after a new ordinance cracking down on drag racing goes into effect on Monday. 

Ald. Matt Martin (47) wrote in his latest newsletter that he has participated in multiple meetings on how Chicago should spend American Rescue Plan dollars, and “one area I believe is particularly deserving of additional city support is domestic violence prevention — particularly in light of the increase in calls and texts to the city's domestic violence support hotline during the pandemic. 

Ald. Maria Hadden (49) and Rep. Kelly Cassidy (D-Chicago) sent a news release calling for state leaders to restore funding for Chicago’s ombudsman program, which pays officials to advocate for residents in nursing homes and long-term care facilities. They say privatizing the positions could lead to “worse service, higher costs, poorer conditions, and less accountability.” 

Ald. Matt O’Shea (19) tweeted the link to a story from The Beverly Review about a resolution he introduced in May calling for “hearings on officer fatigue.” 

Ald. Carlos Ramirez-Rosa (35) tweeted in a thread that he is currently in Peru with Democratic Socialists of America and Progressive International “to serve as an international observer of the June 6 presidential runoff election.” 

Ald. Tom Tunney (44) in his latest newsletter included photos on himself and other elected officials at the groundbreaking of AIDS Garden Chicago. “This project is near and dear to my heart and it has been a priority of mine since 2005 to break ground on the garden,” Tunney wrote. “Honoring all those we have lost to the HIV/AIDS epidemic is a critical part of telling the story of our neighborhood.”  

Ald. James Cappleman (46) in his latest newsletter wrote about a new farmers market in Uptown that launched Wednesday at the corner of Wilson Avenue and Broadway. The market will operate “every Wednesday, May through November, from 11:45 am to 7:45 pm.” 

Ald. Matt Martin (47) tweeted a link to an explanation of “all of the glossy mail pieces about me this week and why” they are being sent. 

Ald. Harry Osterman (48) tweeted that he has been “advocating for the transformative improvements coming our way with the [CTA’s Red-Purple Modernization Project] since I was a State Rep... It's finally happening!”
