Chicago’s next mayor will need Springfield to achieve her goals — but not everything is possible

In Illinois politics, no woman is an island.

Even if she is the mayor of Chicago.

Whether the April 2 runoff election results in a Mayor Lori Lightfoot or a Mayor Toni Preckwinkle, neither woman will be able to accomplish all of her priorities for Chicago without the help of Springfield.

What’s possible, however, remains to be seen.
