Chicago Announcements September 27, 2023

The city's One Summer Chicago program this year employed more than 24,000 young people, representing a 19 percent increase from summer 2022, Mayor Brandon Johnson announced in a news release Tuesday. One Summer Chicago is a program in partnership with the Mayor's Office, the Department of Family and Support Services, Chicago Public Schools, the Chicago Park District, the Chicago Housing Authority, the CTA, City Colleges of Chicago, community and corporate organizations and local companies to ensure people ages 14 to 24 have employment and internship opportunities, according to the news release.  “My administration is committed to investing in our young people, and I am pleased that we were able to reach over 24,000 of them in the first few months of my administration," Johnson said in the news release. "In the years ahead, we will continue bringing together our City partners, business partners, community organizations, faith, labor and all other stakeholders to significantly expand these programs to create pathways for our young people to thrive, during the summer and beyond.”
