Mayor Brandon Johnson on Tuesday issued a statement on the proposed demolition of the Damen Silos saying it will "require a United State Army Corps of Engineers permit, including a federal review under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). Consequently, the City of Chicago will defer its decision on the demolition application pending the outcome of the federal permitting and NEPA review process and related community engagement, which may involve or raise environmental issues and mitigation measures relevant to the City's review.”
