Chicago Announcements October 01, 2024

Mayor Brandon Johnson will introduce his 2025 budget on Oct. 30, two weeks after originally planned, Budget Director Annette Guzman announced Monday. As a result, budget hearings will take place between Nov. 6-20. The city is facing a nearly $1 billion gap next year, and the mayor said the additional time will let the city make "sure we engage all voices in this process," such as the City Council, department leaders and community organizations, and the mayor said the additional time prioritizes "fiscal stability while protecting vital services." Guzman said: "This timeline adjustment provides the necessary flexibility to fully explore potential revenue sources and cost-saving measures while minimizing any impact on essential services and programs."
