Chicago Announcements November 16, 2023
Mayor Brandon Johnson on Wednesday during an unrelated news conference said the city would be adopting a "tiered 60-day shelter stay limit" for migrants as a way to help "move new arrivals through our system to sufficiency and economic stability." Johnson did not further elaborate on how the 60-day limit would work or how it would be applied, but said more details would be available Friday. In addition to the shelter stay limit, Johnson said the city would be increasing personnel at the landing zone and staging areas for migrants and would begin citing and fining bus companies that disregard Chicago's curfews, landing zone locations and loading and unloading rules.
