Chicago Announcements November 13, 2023
Mayor Brandon Johnson and Ald. Ronnie Mosley (21) on Friday issued a joint statement about the City Council's approval of an ordinance that will allow the city to buy a vacant Jewel property near 115th and Halsted streets in the 21st Ward and use the property to house migrants for approximately one year before donating it for the mixed-used Morgan Park Commons development. Mosley worked with the Johnson administration on a deal that benefits his community and allows for the housing of migrants. “The commitments from the Johnson Administration are expansive ─ a base camp deadline, community contracts, capital improvements, support for housing, health and safety, and breaking ground on Morgan Park Commons in 2024," Johnson and Mosley said in the statement. “This was accomplished by responding to the leadership of the alderman and community stakeholders. These conversations are crucial, and the Johnson Administration is committed to co-governance as we work to create solutions that will support each community."
