Mayor Brandon Johnson, the Chicago Department of Public Health and the Mayor’s Office of Community Safety announced the launch of a request for proposals to fund community organizations in the areas covered by the place-based phase of the People's Plan for Community Safety. The city has $1 million available and expects to dole out $250,000 each to four organizations in each of the community areas covered under the current phase of the plan, Austin, Englewood, South Lawndale/Little Village and West Garfield Park. The contracts awarded will last from June 1, 2024 to Aug. 31, 2025. Organizations that qualify will be expected to act as "community conveners for neighborhood safety" by interfacing with community leaders, serving as liaisons wity City Hall, planning programming in line with the People's Plan and collecting community feedback.
