Mayor Brandon Johnson on Wednesday announced the appointment of Marlene Hopkins as the next commmissioner of the Chicago Department of Buildings (DOB). Hopkins has held multiple leadership roles with DOB, including first deputy commissioner, though her appointment immediately drew criticism because of her role in the botched demolition of a power plant in Little Village in 2020.

The mayor also announced the appointment of Elevated Chicago Executive Director Roberto Requejo to the CTA Board, whose appointment was confirmed by the City Council Wednesday.
