Chicago Announcements March 02, 2023
The Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability announced on Wednesday it will launch a nationwide search to replace outgoing Chicago Police Department Supt. David Brown, who on the same day announced his resignation effective March 16. In its search, the commission will recruit candidates, review applications, conduct background checks and interviews and select three finalists to present to the mayor for consideration, according to a news release from the commission. Under the ordinance that established the commission, the mayor must select the new superintendent from the list provided by the commission or request a new list. In order to solicit input, the commission will hold at least four public hearings across the city and seek input from members of the Chicago Police Department.
