Chicago Announcements June 22, 2023
A committee of Cook County Democratic Party officials voted to appoint Tara Stamps, Administrator of New Teacher Development for the Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) and the daughter of noted Cabrini-Green public housing activist Marion Stamps, to replace Mayor Brandon Johnson on the Cook County Board of Commissioners Tuesday night in Oak Park. Stamps will represent District 1, which includes portions of Chicago’s West Side and parts of the Oak Park and Proviso townships. "Tara Stamps is a champion for students, educators, working class families and the everyday people of this county," the CTU said in a statement following the appointment. "As a true daughter of Chicago and living in the legacy of her mother Marion Stamps, a Civil Rights icon, Tara Stamps’ appointment to the Cook County Board of Commissioners represents a new era of leadership for the first district and the entire country."
