Chicago Announcements June 03, 2024

Mayor Brandon Johnson's administration on Friday announced the release of the Plow the Sidewalks Pilot Program: Report of Recommendations. The report is the product of a working group convened in September 2023 to study how to implement a city pilot program from snow and ice removal on sidewalks. The report recommends a pilot program lasting from 2025 through 2026 that would involved the city clearing snow and ice from sidewalks when at least two inches of snow accumulate in a 24-hour period. The program is recommended to be piloted in four 1.5 square-mile pilot zones on the South, Southwest, West and North sides of the city, according to a news release.
