A group of elected officials, community groups and residents gather for a news conference at Clearing Branch Library on the Southwest Side Thursday moring to call for the creation of an additional Chicago police district and new police beats in the area. Alderpeople, state elected officials and others will gather at 6423 W. 63rd Place in Chicago at 10 a.m. Thursday. According to a news release, the current 8th police district "is the busiest and largest by population, and has the worst data points in the city on key police staffing metrics, which has led to slow police response times and resident frustration." Attendees will include Alds. Marty Quinn (13), Jeylu Gutierrez (14), Raymond Lopez 915), Stephanie Coleman (16), David Moore (17), Derrick Curtis (18) and Silvana Tabares (23).
