Chicago Announcements January 08, 2024
Chicago Public Schools support staff, through their union SEIU Local 73, will take actions at work Monday to demand better working conditions amid negotiaitons between the union and management that have been ongoing since last May. The union announced in a news release that workers will "rally and walk into work together demanding a contract that creates clean, safe, and supported schools." The Chicago Teachers Union is expected to participate in solidarity. The union, which represents thousands of special education classroom assistants, bus aides, security officers, crossing guards, custodians and parent-workers, is demanding annual cost-of-living adjustments, better job security, clearer work duties and standardized training.
