Chicago Announcements December 23, 2022
Cook County Assessor Fritz Kaegi’s office issued a notice encouraging property taxpayers to ensure the correct exemption have been applied to their bills. Homeowners who believe they should have gotten an exemption that was not included in their tax bill can apply for a Certificate of Error. “The Certificate of Error process provides homeowners an opportunity to redeem missing exemptions for up to three years in addition to the current tax year,” according to the email from Kaegi’s office. “Homeowners can now apply for the 2021, 2020, 2019, and 2018 tax years all on one easy to use form available online.”
