Chicago Announcements December 13, 2023

Mayor Brandon Johnson's administration on Tuesday announced it would abandon new controversial rules governing public participation and attendance at City Council meetings, according to reporting from multiple news outlets. The rules would have required pre-registration to attend council meetings and would have limited most public attendance to the third floor gallery in the council chambers.

Cook County is reminding employers that new minimum wage rules will go into effect Jan. 1. Effective at the beginning 2024, the minimum wage for non-tipped workers will rise to $14 per hour for standard work hours and to $21 per hour for overtime hours. The minimum wage for tipped workers will be $8.40 per hour for standard work hours starting Jan. 1, and it will be $15.40 per hour for overtime, the county said.
