Mayor Lori Lightfoot on Thursday planted the 18,000th tree this year as part of the initiative she announced in 2021 to plant 75,000 new trees across the city over a five-year period. With the planting of the tree on Thursday, the city exceeded its initial goal to plant 15,000 trees annually through 2026.
