After the Trump administration unsuccessfully attempted to block the release of funding, $18.4 million in grants are being awarded to build electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in Illinois. 

The Joint Committee on Administrative Rules (JCAR) objected to an emergency rule Tuesday from the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) intended to stop illicit substances from being smuggled in on inmate’s mail. 

During the first week of the Illinois Supreme Court September session, the state argued that defendants given jail time for breaking the conditions of their pretrial release are not eligible for good conduct credit. 

Amidst changing federal policy surrounding vaccines, Gov. JB Pritzker issued an executive order Friday that aims to preserve vaccine access in the state. 

The Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) is anticipating service cuts for Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) could begin in late 2026, while Pace cuts are expected to start in 2027, if additional funding is not approved by the General Assembly.

The latest report from the Commission of Government Forecasting and Accountability (COGFA) found Illinois’ economy is a “mixed picture,” with limited job growth, steady unemployment and decreasing inflation. The report also details an increase in state revenues for August and steady bond ratings for the state. 

The Illinois Supreme Court will return to Springfield Tuesday for their two-week September session. The court is scheduled to hear oral arguments in 12 cases over the period.
