Goodstein was most recently deputy chief of communications to Chicago City Clerk Anna Valencia and has also served as chief of staff to Sen. Sara Feigenholtz (D-Chicago). She has also held roles on Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s 2019 primary campaign and Young Democrats of Illinois.

The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) will host a virtual talk titled “How can we design safe and complete streets with an equity lens?” at noon Tuesday. The event will include CMAP’s Victoria Barrett, policy makers and planners from the area and representatives from Cook County’s Department of Transportation and Highways. The event is set to include a moderated discussion and Q&A session. Panelists are scheduled to discuss “how residents can design safer streets for all and create more vibrant, walkable communities with an equity lens,” according to a news release from Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle’s office. Those interested can register online.

The Department of Public Health released data Friday showing 8,600 Illinoisans have avoided hospitalization from COVID-19 in the last four months thanks to therapies for the virus. “The data from Illinois that IDPH released today show just how effective these treatments can be at protecting people who contract COVID-19 from being hospitalized and severe outcomes. These treatments are especially recommended for individuals over 50 and those with underlying medical conditions. The key is to start these medications quickly, within the first five days,” said IDPH Director Sameer Vohra  

Reps. La Shawn Ford (D-Chicago) and Fran Hurley (D-Chicago) are asking residents to submit feedback about “current trends in public safety and efforts to reduce crime” in Illinois for the Public Safety and Violence Prevention Task Force they chair. JB Pritzker and the Department of Transportation announced $94 million has been released for Rebuild Illinois for construction along Wood Street and Ashland Avenue through Harvey, Dixmoor and Riverdale. The project will involve reconstructing three miles of road between 161st and 138th Streets. New storm sewers and water mains will also be a part of the project.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot on Thursday announced the creation of a Casino Community Advisory Council tasked with ensuring neighborhood residents can give input as casino operator Bally’s and the city move forward with bringing a casino to Chicago, according to a news release from Lightfoot’s office. The 19-member advisory council, which includes community members and subject-matter experts, is set to meet quarterly until the casino opens. The city’s Department of Planning and Development, Department of Transportation, the Mayor’s Office of Community Engagement and the Chief Financial Officer’s office will share oversight of the advisory council. The Chicago Department of Transportation announced on Wednesday that crews on Sept. 12 are scheduled to begin resurfacing Michigan Avenue between Oak Street and Ohio Street. The resurfacing project is expected to be completed in November and will include work on ADA crosswalk ramps, bus pads and the road’s underlying infrastructure. Throughout the construction work, at least one direction of traffic will remain open.

T/CCI Manufacturing will be the first company to receive the Reimagining Electric Vehicles (REV) in Illinois tax credit, Gov. JB Pritzker announced Monday. The Decatur facility manufactures compressors for combustion vehicles and the company is expected to add 50 jobs in the city as it expands its work to electric vehicles. T/CCI will received $2.2 million from the tax credit.   

The Illinois State Police will establish their Metro East headquarters in East St. Louis, State Police Director Brenden Kelly and Pritzker announced Monday. Funds from the Rebuild Illinois capital plan will build a new “state of the art” facility on a portion of land in the city the state purchased in 2008 for $1. The facility will house multiple units of the State Police’s working, including patrol, investigations, communications and SWAT resources.   

Good Government Illinois, Reform for Illinois and Our Revolution Illinois will host a virtual event at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday with state representative nominee Abdelnasser Rashid and Cook County Board of Review nominee Samantha Steele. Registration can be found online.   

WCIA-TV in Champaign hired Theodora Kolouvaris as the station’s new State Capitol reporter. Cole Henke will remain as the Nexstar capitol bureau chief for WCIA and Nexstar affiliates in Illinois, including WGN.
