    10th Ward Recount Conducted

The Board of Elections conducted a discovery recount of ballots from nine precincts in the 10th Ward yesterday. Conducted at the request of Ald. John Pope, representatives from Ald. John Pope and Ald.-elect Susan Sadlowski Garza's campaign attended the day-long count of ballots at the BOE warehouse in Archer Heights. The recount is used to determine a factual basis for adequate grounds to pursue a full recount, says Board of Elections spokesman Jim Allen.

The Board of Elections certified the 2015 election results on April 23 calling the 10th Ward race for Garza by a mere 20 votes. But Ald. Pope has yet to concede the race or help Garza's transition team, says Carl Camucho, Garza's campaign manager. Camucho who attended the discovery recount, reports the vote totals remain unchanged.

Representatives from the two campaigns are scheduled to meet again Wednesday morning, because Ald. Pope's campaign has requested a verification of all signature sheets for the nine recounted precincts. It is also the same day as the final City Council meeting, where many of the ousted and retiring aldermen will make their final remarks.

Since Ald. Pope has yet to concede, Camucho says Garza has been meeting with other sitting Council members to get information about providing ward services and is finalizing her ward office location.
