Ald. Matt Martin (47) posted "For years, Chicagoans have been organizing for & demanding a community voice in public safety policymaking. Thanks to their hard work, City Council passed the ECPS Ordinance in 2021, creating 22 District Councils and the Community Commission for Public Safety & Accountability. The Commission is responsible for setting Chicago Police Dep't policy, hearing citywide feedback on public safety, and helping to select a new CPD Superintendent. It plays an essential role in centering community voices in how CPD and other departments operate. Applications to serve on the 7-member Commission are open until February 7th.
