The Illinois Senate Energy and Public Utilities Committee approved myriad bills Thursday including a measure that would allow the state to use land for broadband infrastructure and a measure allowing plug-in solar panels.

The Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability predicts fiscal year 2027 revenues will be about $500 million below what is required to balance Gov. JB Pritzker’s budget proposal.
The commission’s FY27 estimates do not yet take into account new taxes or changes to existing taxes that the governor has proposed — such as a tax on social media companies or a change in how table games at casinos are taxed — as they are not yet law.
