As talk about how to address the migrant situation emerges as a potentially major topic of the 2024 spring session, House Republican Leader Tony McCombie (R-Savanna) said her caucus will be focusing on advocating for Illinois’ existing residents to ensure their needs aren’t put aside in favor of the new arrivals.

Lawmakers will return to Springfield on Tuesday for the first week of the 2024 spring session. Though many are focused on their March primary campaigns, budget challenges and other legislative issues will be on lawmakers’ plate throughout the spring.

As Chicago suffers through one of the annual deep cold spells of winter, Gov. JB Pritzker sent a letter to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott pleading with the Republican governor to “pause” sending migrants to Chicago and the suburbs during the dangerous winter weather.
