Democrats have seen a new surge of enthusiasm since Vice President Kamala Harris launched her presidential campaign last month and the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago left Illinois Democrats fired up for the home stretch of the election.

U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin took time to criticize Republican vice presidential nominee Ohio Sen. JD Vance for blocking President Joe Biden’s nominee to fill the open U.S. attorney position in Chicago.  

Former Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan made a brief return to politics on Thursday. And U.S. Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi of Hoffman Estates spoke at the Democratic National Convention (DNC).

Abortion remains the defining issue of the 2024 election, according to Illinois Democrats, who say they’ve set the agenda with new protections on reproductive rights.

Former President Barack Obama was welcomed back to Chicago on Tuesday night at the Democratic National Convention (DNC). And Senate President Don Harmon (D-Oak Park) said a bill to allow legislative staff to unionize needs unspecified changes.
