The Illinois Supreme Court ruled 4-3 against Rep. Dan Caulkins’ (R-Decatur) challenge to the state’s assault weapons ban, deciding his argument that the assault weapons ban was “special legislation” was not in violation of the Illinois Constitution.

Since returning from pitching businesses on the benefits of establishing operations in Illinois during a trip to the United Kingdom, Gov. JB Pritzker has been touring the state highlighting Illinois’ electric vehicle manufacturing capabilities and businesses that have tapped into tax incentives.

Progressives across the country are taking a victory lap after Ohio voters resoundingly shot down a Republican-led ballot measure to make it more difficult to pass constitutional amendments.  

Though he’s happy with the outcome in Ohio, Gov. JB Pritzker said Wednesday he’s not planning to push a constitutional amendment to make it easier to amend Illinois’ constitution.

State revenue figures increased in July compared to July 2022, according to the latest report from the Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability (CGFA), as economic indicators show the economy is still going strong this year.

Gov. JB Pritzker signed about 100 new laws Friday that include caps on insulin prices, an expansion for a taxing district in Central Illinois, new laws related to reproductive healthcare, and more changes to the state’s election laws.

The Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) is weighing a rate hike request from Peoples Gas that the company says is a safety necessity while advocates want a faster transition to clean energy sources.

Gov. JB Pritzker signed more than 130 bills into law Friday as the governor continues to whittle down the number of bills from the spring session requiring action.   

The bills signed by Pritzker Friday included several key initiatives from the spring session that tackle infrastructure, crime, ethics and education.
