With Gov. JB Pritzker eager to sign more stringent ethics laws surrounding lawmakers and lobbyists amidst the cloud of a sprawling federal investigation that’s rocked Springfield, Chicago and beyond, the Joint Commission on Ethics and Lobbying Reform took up those issues in a marathon hearing on Thursday and focused on a frequent target of reformers.

Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton, one of the appointed members of the commission, zeroed in on the two-page statement of economic interest lawmakers must fill out each year as one obvious place to begin.
