Supporters of a plan to rename Balbo Drive for investigative journalist Ida B. Wells scrambled Friday after they got wind the measure had been pulled from the agenda for Wednesday’s meeting of the Transportation Committee. Surprising no one, Mayor Rahm Emanuel picked an ally of House Speaker Michael Madigan (D-Chicago) to serve as 23rd Ward alderman. One day after touting a new express train to O’Hare Airport designed to cater to business travelers and tourists, Emanuel turned his focus to the CTA Green Line on the South Side.
