Matt Brewer, one of the dozen-plus candidates running to unseat Mayor Brandon Johnson, thinks Chicago must grow its way out of its budget woes rather than rely on tax hikes to fuel spending. 

“We can't get there without growth,” Brewer said in an interview with The Daily Line a little over a week after filing signatures to get on the mayoral ballot. “Right now, we have recurring expenses, and we don't have enough recurring revenue to match our recurring expenses.”
