The City Council at a special meeting on Monday voted overwhelmingly to allocate a multimillion-dollar sum received under the deal transferring the rights to the city’s parking meters toward the city’s pension obligations above and beyond what’s already been paid this year. 

The move now creates a new budget gap that Mayor Brandon Johnson and the council must work to address.
