Chicago Announcements September 14, 2023

The city of Chicago is partnering with the Economic Security Project to explore opening a municipally owned grocery store in the city, Mayor Brandon Johnson announced Wednesday. The Economic Security Project is providing the city with technical assistance to examine the potential grocery store. “All Chicagoans deserve to live near convenient, affordable, healthy grocery options. We know access to grocery stores is already a challenge for many residents, especially on the South and West sides,” Johnson said in a news release. “I am proud to work alongside partners to take this step in envisioning what a municipally owned grocery store in Chicago could look like.”
