Applications to replace Ald. George Cardenas (12) as the 12th Ward alderman closed at 5 p.m. Wednesday. Cardenas’ last day as a member of the City Council is Nov. 30 and Mayor Lori Lightfoot is tasked with appointing his replacement within 60 days of his departure. Cardenas’ colleagues thanked him for his service and gave him well wishes during the City Council meeting Wednesday.
