Chicago Announcements November 14, 2023

Mayor Brandon Johnson on Monday appointed Olusimbo “Simbo” Ige as his pick for the next commissioner of the Chicago Department of Public Health. The position leading the city's public health department on a permanent basis has been open since August when Johnson fired former Comm. Allison Arwady. Ige is currently the managing director of programs at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and previously worked as the assistant commissioner for the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. Her appointment is pending City Council confirmation.
