Chicago Announcements June 03, 2022
The Chicago and Illinois departments of public health announced the state’s first case of monkeypox. The case is a Chicago man who recently traveled to Europe. The health departments do not believe there is any wider spread of the virus in the city. “Monkeypox is a rare, but potentially serious viral illness, which belongs to the Orthopoxvirus family, and typically begins with flu-like symptoms and swelling of the lymph nodes, and progresses to a rash on the face and body,” health officials said.
