Chicago Animal Care and Control Executive Director Mamadou Diakhate is leaving his role as head of city department and Susan Cappello began serving as the active executive director Monday, Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced in a news release Monday. Cappello has served as the department's deputy director since July 2021 and has worked for the city for 32 years, according to the news release.
