Jaylin McClinton, who ran to represent District 5 on the Cook County Board of Commissioners as a Democrat in 2022, announced Monday that he would not seek to be appointed to the vacant District 5 seat after former commissioner Monica Gordon left to become county clerk. McClinton lost to Gordon and came in third in the Democratic Party primary in 2022. "While I believe that I fit that mold ... I will not be a candidate for elected office through this antiquated, backroom, old-school process."
