Chicago Announcements April 18, 2023

Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced on Monday that the Chicago Public Library Foundation, on behalf of the Chicago Public Library, was awarded a $2 million grant from the Mellon Foundation for the Renaissance Project that will support access to archives related to Black history across the city's libraries. With the grant funding, the library will digitize Black history documents dating back to the 1800s, bring research materials to all the system's library branches and support students learning about Black history.
