Gov. JB Pritzker announced the state will begin a $122 million total renovation of the State Armory, located north of the Capitol. The funds come from the Rebuild Illinois capital plan. The renovations will allow executive agencies to use the building for office space and will be completed in 2025. The building has been the location of many important events to the Springfield community and has hosted presidents, famous athletes and other well-known people or music groups.

The Chicago Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection will host a virtual Small Business Expo at 9 a.m. on May 5. “The interactive expo will provide business owners and entrepreneurs a forum to get expert advice, connect with industry experts and government agencies, learn new business strategies, meet other business owners, and attend an inspiring keynote address,” according to a news release. Online registration is required.  

Former Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy has been appointed Interim Chief of Police for southwest suburban Willow Springs, whose population is about 5,000. He will be sworn in as chief of police later this month.

That’s because the Cook County Assessor’s Office could delay the second installment of the Cook County Real Estate Taxes up to six months and possibly into the first quarter of 2023. The Department of Central Management Services and Gov. JB Pritzker announced Thursday a purchase and sale agreement has been reached with JRTC Holdings for the sales of the James R. Thompson Center at 100 W. Randolph Street. JRTC Holdings was chosen as the buyer of the building in December. Illinois will receive a $70 million up-front payment and retain 425,000 square feet of space in the building. Closing on the sale is expected to be completed this summer.
