Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza pitched herself to Chicago business leaders Wednesday as the mayoral candidate who would grow the city’s economy instead of raising taxes, taking aim at Mayor Brandon Johnson’s proposed 2027 budget. 

Mendoza laid out her plan at a City Club of Chicago luncheon and answered questions on transit safety, the Archer Avenue traffic project and taxes on high earners.
